Our Story

Who, What, When Where, Why?

St. Irving’s Day Is a Divine Joke Holiday.

Who is St. Irving? St. Irving is a great encourager. He encourages all kinds of virtues: hard work, responsibility, creativity, and innovation. He is known as the Patron Saint of Nerds. But he loves all kinds of achievement and other activities and qualities that bring people together in unity of purpose. St. Irving is kind and gentle, and he is humble and shuns publicity. That’s why you never see a straight-up picture of his face, though you may see his arm around someone or catch sight of him from the back since he attends all our award ceremonies. Our logo is a drawing of St. Irving’s hand (see below for the meaning of our logo).

What is St. Irving’s Day? St. Irving’s Day is when we encourage and reward those around us who best represent the virtues that produce positive results for all of us. It is a combination of Nerd’s Day and Recognition Day. It is a worldwide holiday that celebrates the good qualities and achievements of individuals from business, schools, churches, and other organizations.

What is the St. Irving logo, and what does it mean? The St. Irving logo is a drawing of the right hand of St. Irving giving a Pinky Wave. The significance of this comes from the idea that even huge and wonderful things are possible. Let me explain.

We often limit our imaginations and refuse to even try to achieve a really grand goal or spectacular achievement. In our case, the Pinky Wave graphically represents the idea that, with the move of just His little finger, God could create a whole new worldwide holiday, if He wants to.

We hope that you relax and enjoy our site because it is meant to be fun. So, be sure to give a friend a Pinky Wave today!

When is St. Irving’s Day? The recognized date for Saint Irving’s Day is the first Friday in August. However, considering that Saint Irving is the Patron Saint of Nerds, it may also be celebrated as a Holiday X, a variable holiday according to when it will be the most fun.

Where is St. Irving’s Day celebrated? St. Irving’s Day is a worldwide holiday—and it can be celebrated literally anywhere—our award can be given through a business, school, church, nonprofit organization, or even a family. If someone in your family does something special or achieves something great, they might deserve a St. Irving Award.

Why is there a St. Irving’s Day? To say it again, St. Irving’s Day is a joke. But it’s a joke with a powerful meaning. St. Irving’s Day exists because it really is important to encourage people, and it’s important to have fun doing it.

Mission

The purpose and mission of St. Irving’s Day are to have fun while recognizing and encouraging people’s contributions and virtues. One main goal of the Saint Irving website is to encourage the official recognition of the St. Irving’s Day. This worldwide holiday celebrates all kinds of contributions, including those having to do with innovation and creativity, responsibility and hard work, sticktoitiveness and constancy, kindness and encouragement, among many other virtues.

We seek to use humor to express some important ideas. It is our belief that individual differences and independent thinking are the basis for working together effectively.
A person must be true to themselves before they can be genuinely true to others. And the larger fulfillment of a person comes in working happily and effectively together with others.
