From the Director’s Desk
Welcome to the Saint Irving’s Day website.
Thank you for visiting us!
Our site has all kinds of personal stories, opportunities for doing good, a blog and award gallery, community events and articles to inspire, and even a soon-to-open store with items for gift-giving featuring the St. Irving’s Day motif. The site is aimed to encourage, inspire and strengthen, and to be fun for everyone.
Saint Irving is a great encourager. As you may know, Saint Irving is the patron saint of nerds. But he loves all kinds of achievement and all those activities and qualities that bring people together in unity of purpose.
Each of us is unique, and our individual talents and abilities are precious and extremely valuable to one another. Saint Irving loves to celebrate the differences and promote the real fun of working together.
We hope that you will enjoy our site and see in it lots of ways to celebrate our differences and to encourage others to work closer together so that your family, business, school, or other organization can move forward to accomplish even more good things.
Again, thank you for visiting! We hope that you enjoy your stay and come back often ...and tell your friends about our site! There is always room for one more at Saint Irving’s!
Rachael,
Your sister, Robin, and your friends are wrong. They have been affected by the cynicism of a cynical age. The selfish acts of a few people have caused many people to no longer easily recognize St. Irving when they see him. They are blinded from seeing the many selfless good deeds, the boundless opportunity to accomplish great things by working together, and the hope for a brighter future that is St. Irving.
The motivation, inspiration and creativity that is behind all great accomplishments is not a visible thing. And yet many people, both young and old, are accustomed to ignoring the invisible and paying attention only to what they can see, touch and feel.
This is small thinking, whether from a child or from an adult. There is much more that causes events and establishes our accomplishments than just what we can see with our eyes or calculate with our computers. This is true no matter how big and new and powerful those are. For no computer, no matter how big, or even all the computers in the whole world working together, can really understand the importance of imagination, creativity, determination and motivation, which are expressions of the power of an unseen world.
Yes Rachael, there is a St. Irving. He exists as certainly as innovation, creativity and unity of purpose exist, and you will find that the results of these qualities abound in your life. You can see them in the existence of schools and libraries, churches and charities, and in the character, responsibility and hard work of people you know.
No St. Irving? How dreary the world would be without St. Irving! That would be as dreary as if there were no RACHAELS! There would be no childlike imagination and faith then, and no poetry or romance to make tolerable our existence. And what could we ever hope to accomplish if we lacked the imagination to envision new possibilities?
No St. Irving? Thank God he lives! And on this web site, we will introduce him to you and to everyone. And you Rachael, and your sister Robin, are invited to come and visit him here on our web site, and ask him any questions that you may have.
We hope to see you soon!
Best Wishes,
David G. Brewer
